Update for September 2008

Meeting day and location: The first Thursday of each month at Coco’s restaurant,1324 E. Main Street El Cajon (near Main and 2nd/Jamacha). The meetings start at 7 p.m.. CEA Board positions – call for candidate’s statements

Four CEA board positions will be open. Voting will take place in October. Board positions start in January 2009. Officers are elected by the board. Candidate’s statements may be sent to Linda Eskin 619- 368-4333 (cell) or linda@lindaeskin.com. Please consider getting involved with CEA.

Park News

* Los Caballos Trail – News is pending regarding the re-opening of this important connecting trail. Volunteers to help on trail work will be needed soon.
* Equestrian Staging Areas
o Paso Picacho East – Pending; no update.
o Hual Cu Cuish - Equestrian staging area just off Milk Ranch Rd near Cuyamaca Lake, Azalea and Middle Peak. Reminder: pick up all manure and trash. Practice “Leave No Trace”.
* Granite Springs Water – The pump still needs replacing at a cost of $3406. Due to the state budget situation, this project will wait for needed funds, along with other park deferred needs. In the meantime, water is available at Dyar Springs.
* Merigan Staging Project – Money issue cause delays.
* Cuyamaca 75th Anniversary celebration – October 11, 10:00 – 4:00, School Camp. Vendors, presentations, food. CEA will have a booth. www.cuyamaca.us
* Adopt a work party - Encourage your club membership to volunteer for a workparty

Fages Ride – September 26-28/9, 2008. Registration closes September 12. All camping spots are reserved with a waiting list. Dinners ($20 each) and breakfasts ($8 each) may be purchased til September 12; forms available at www.cuyamaca.us and www.cuyamacaequestrian.org Historic Ride will be staged at Los Vaqueros Group Camp ride out 10:00 on Saturday, September 28; limited parking along Los Vaq road for day riders, also you can park at Hual Cu Cuish and ride over. Dinner at 4:00 followed by Garry McClintock re-enactment program. CEA volunteers are needed on this event. Please contact Cindy. (619) 390-9553 mckww@cox.net
How to Support CEA

Cuyamaca Equestrian Association is requesting funds from horse organizations and individual equestrians for the following accounts to further CEA’s work. Donations are tax deductible.

1. Operational Funds for CEA – Make your check out to CEA and write “General Fund” on the memo line or leave it blank.
2. Los Caballos Fund – Make your check out to CEA and write “Los Cab” on the memo line. Fund is for services of consulting attorney Bill Davis and consulting archeologist Kent Schneider PhD working on preserving and protecting recreational and specifically equestrian access to our state park.
3. Mail checks to: CEA, PO Box 79, Descanso, CA 91916.
